Frequently Asked Questions

Some regularly requested information about the site - look here before you get in touch.

Can I submit my demo for you to listen to?

To be honest, I'm not the best person to send a demo to. I've not done much presenting work, and I've produced programmes rather than develop on-air talent. My best suggestion is that you join the discussion boards at MediaUK, where you'll find a demo critque thread which you can get the opinion of lots of experienced people.

Why run this website?

I did, at one point, think of writing a book - to the point of writing about 1/3rd of it (most of which has been used here). But books involve getting publishing deals, probably having to pay an agent and then worrying about whether anyone would buy the damn thing. Why do that, when I can be my own publisher, constantly update and expand the book and not have to worry about people forking out for it. Plus it allowed me to brush up on my PHP skills.

What about the pictures?

Most of the pictures on this site are taken from Freefoto. They are not the most inspiring images, and if you have any shots from your own station which you would be happy for Rad10 to use then please get in touch. In particular images of people actually making radio would be excellent. You and your station would get a full credit.

The headphones shot on the banner was taken by Jon Davies, all the other shots where there is no copyright information were taken by me.

Can I use stuff from this website in my own radio station or training environment?

Broadly speaking yes; as long as you are not making a profit from it. The main thing I'd appreciate is a credit and plug for the site. And if you are regularly going to be using stuff, or to be honest even if you are not, it's always nice to know where it is being used so drop me an email.

Did you write all of this?

Pretty much, although there are a couple of times I've based what I've written on stuff I jointly wrote for another purpose - where this has happened I have always tried to credit the other parties.
